Week 12 – Emerging Market Analysis of the MET Program

On behalf of the Week 12 Team, Denise, Lisa, Kim, Regen and myself, I would like to welcome you all to Week 12: Emerging Market Analysis of the MET program

Graduate programs in learning technologies are an emerging market, our Week 12 endeavor is a form of meta-analysis as part of ETEC 522. Although there are a number of similar graduate programs, graduate degrees in educational technology are considered part of an emerging market, because of the possibilities and numerous opportunities it can offer. Our team looks at MET as an opportunistic learning technologies market, exploring successes and possibilities.

We will also look and see what best future directions the MET program can have. How can MET evolve to meet the needs of a growing technological marketplace and still remain a quality program. Our team reflects on Met catering to K-12 teachers, adults and corporate needs. We also explore new horizons, delving into such specialization as a PHD program or one with a global focus. As students of the MET program we are well placed to both evaluate MET’s current market value and explore its potential emerging markets. We ask you to join us in determining the current and evolving needs of Met by engaging in various discussions and activities. At the end of the week we will compile and summarize discussions and findings and post the results here on the ETEC 522 Blog.

As you view our presentation, please select and keep a few of the following questions in mind . . .

1.Is there room for expansion within MET?

2.Do you consider MET a professional development opportunity?

3.How do you see MET’s expansion?

4.Will the MET program provide you with advancement in education?

5.Do you see specializations forming within MET, such as Adult education, vocational training, corporate training?

6.Are technologies emerging too quickly for MET to keep up?

7.Can MET expand beyond the degree to providing a PhD or DEd? Or provide regular professional development opportunities for MET graduates – online, face –to-face?

We encourage you to engage in any number of discussions and activities concerning MET as an emerging technological market . . . and now:
